Wrongful death claim filed against West Virginia doctors, hospital

A West Virginia woman is suing six doctors and the West Virginia University Hospitals on behalf of her family member. She claims that together the doctors and hospital caused his wrongful death.

Her family member had a history of coronary artery disease and previously underwent extensive bypass surgery. Prior to another scheduled surgery, he was assessed by a cardiology and cardiovascular angiography specialist. The testing showed that he could be cleared for surgery, but he was not. Instead, he underwent a procedure in which two drug stents were implanted, and another drug was administered through an IV for 12 hours after the procedure.

The lawsuit claims that while in recovery he was not carefully and adequately monitored. He developed a hemorrhage which went unnoticed. Shortly thereafter he was found barely conscious and not functioning.

The patient was then placed in ICU because of severe bleeding in his brain. He continued to receive the drug in his IV during his time in ICU. He died later that day.

The lawsuit claims that altogether the treatment that he received at the hospital and at the direction of the six doctors caused a series of events that resulted in this man's wrongful death. If it were not for the negligent medical care that he received at the West Virginia hospital, and under those doctors' care, this woman believes that her relative would be alive today

When a loved one suffers a wrongful death, no amount of compensation can ever replace the sense of loss. However, if the death is a result of another's negligence, a wrongful death claim may help alleviate the financial burdens that result from the death. When doctors and hospitals negligently cause the wrongful death of a patient, then they should be held responsible for those actions.
